Cindy Sherman

Artist Statement:

This photo is copy of Jacqueline Kennedy who was the wife of the 35th president of the United States. She was a popular women and famous world-wide she was also known for her sense of fashion in the 1950s. I chose this as my strongest photo because the lighting is strong and focused on my face, I like how the photo is very proper and put together. Everything is set up to look similar to the original photo of Jacqueline. Everything just focuses on the subject and the colour of the dress really makes it stand out and directs your view. The expression and the hair make it proper and professional looking and that was what I was going for because that is what Jacqueline was known for her fashion and being proper and professional because most of the time she had to be because she was married to the president.

Shutter Speed Project

This is my action shot of magic kingdom fireworks. I just my own timing to catch the right moment of this picture. It was difficult to catch this, as you can tell I got a pretty lucky shot. I just continued to take a picture continuously and this was one of them I caught. I had to set myself up in the middle of the castle and zoom in enough in order to see the fireworks.

For the first attempt at the pinhole camera we couldnt figure out what was wrong, we held it out for 2 minutes because it was shot inside. IT turned out pure black. We thought that maybe we had left the camera open for too long because we took our picture by a window so maybe the lighting was similar to outside lighting. So for our second attempt we decided to leave it out longer. After trying it out a second time for about 25 seconds this time it still turn out blank. We couldnt figure out what was wrong, so we maybe though that there was a leak of light. We finally look all around the pringles can to see if there were any leaks of light coming in, we taped all around it. We had painted the whole inside of the pringles can and thought there was no light coming through and it was seeled. When we finally had held up the pringles lid to the light we saw there was little tiny scratches that were letting in a little bit of light everywhere. We finally had figured out the problem so we went and shot one more photo. So for our third attempt at this we went to the same spot and shot it again. This time we finally had a picture show up and we were really happy but the only problem with this one was that we didn't leave it in the fix long enough so we had a blob in the middle which made the picture kind of confusing at first. I think if we were to of shot it for a fourth time it would of turned out perfectly since now we've realized all our mistakes on the other photo's.

Journal One

This is a photo of my families laptop. Its probably always being fought over because someone always needs it or wants it. Technology is something my family and I are always on and its very useful to us since we are so busy with sports, work and school. This laptop has been around for a long time and along with the laptop technology has been a big help to our world. It helps me and my family to keep organized and get things done. Its the most used thing in our household.

I took this photo because this wall of photos means a lot to me and is actually a pretty big part of me. It's something I wake up to every morning. I see all my friends and family and all the memorizes I have shared with them over the years and makes me happy looking back at them. My family and friends are very important to me and I love having these photos in my room and have people look at them and explain to them what they are and who those people are. Makes you think back on all the good times you've shared with them. New pictures are added almost everyday. I plan to eventually fill my whole wall with pictures.

I chose to take a picture of these words because I feel they have a lot of meaning. These words are all along my walls in my room and whenever I wake up in the morning I look at them. Live, reminds you to live your life to the fullest. Laugh, reminds you to smile, laugh a little and have fun. Love, reminds you to love everyone in your life and be thankful for everything you have. These words have lots of meaning to them and people may look at them differently. Looking at them makes me happy and makes me think whenever I'm going through a hard time to cheer up and be thankful.

This photo of my skates represents hockey, it is my favourite thing to do. I've been playing hockey for over 9 years now and my family also plays. Everyone in my family loves the sport and we all go and watch each other play. Hockey has been apart of my families life since me and my sister were young. We watch games together, we like to cheer each other during games and we all love to play it. Hockey is apart of my families everyday life.

This is my families Keurig maker. This beverage maker is a useful thing in our house. My mom makes a tea every morning and night. My dad makes a coffee every morning and both me and my sister have the hot chocolate. It gets used alot in our house and is convenient, better then having to drive to Tim Hortens every morning to get those drinks. Every weekend my family and I all make our normal beverages, relax and watch a movie together. It was something we all had wanted for Christmas and so my dad, sister and I decided to go buy one for my mom because we know how much she loves her tea. Something else I like about it is, is that I like how it kind of brings my family together.

Assignment One

Travel Photography by Dan Kitwood "The Big Ben on New Years"
This picture emphasizes the World Heritage Site 'The Big Ben' when the clock stricts midnight for the celebration of the new year by having the fireworks surrouonding it. By having the baige fireworks it really make the Big Ben stand out over everything else by the fireworks not being very big vibrent colours to distract you from the main point of view. The strong lighting and boldness of it aswell makes the Big Ben stand out and empahasizes the shape of the figure. I enjoy this photo because I feel this would be difficult to take and get the right photo to catch all the fireworks to make sure that the Big Ben was the main view. This photo also makes you think about new years celebration, how beautiful the towns are and happy family and friends are at this time of year.
